I explored Inspiration Software which is a great tool that aids in creating diagrams, charts, graphs, etc. This would be very useful to build a concept map or a web chart. It features many different icons and pictures that can be incorporated into whatever you create. It will aid in students' understanding of concepts by provided an effective visual representation of information. It also allows them to build on their own thoughts and ideas if they use this software.
Here is an example of how a teacher created a concept map using Inspiration to show her students "6 traits of Writing".
There are several different tutorials on the various feature of inspiration software at http://www.learningelectric.com/inspiration7.htm.
This would be a wonderful website to use in an elementary classroom becuase of the ease of creating a diagram or concept map. If I were to create a template and leave the rest of the options blank, my students could fill out the rest without all the complications of creating the diagram on their own. They would enjoy being able to print out the map and show their parents and display them around the room.. This would be something they could do as a follow up activity to their accelerated reader book for one time.
